Arborist pruning a large gum tree in Glenmore Park, surrounded by residential homes and lush greenery.

Glenmore Park Large Gum Tree Pruning – Private Resident

The Brief

A mature gum tree located in the backyard of a residential property in Glenmore Park required professional pruning to address several large sections of lower deadwood that posed a safety risk. Due to the tree’s size and proximity to surrounding structures, including fences, sheds, and neighbouring homes, careful and controlled pruning was required.

Dixons Trees was engaged to selectively remove hazardous deadwood while maintaining the health, structure, and natural form of the tree. All pruning works were required to comply with the Australian Standard Pruning of Amenity Trees, ensuring best-practice arboricultural techniques were followed throughout the process.

Site Challenges

This project presented a number of technical and logistical considerations:

  • Large established gum tree – required experienced climbing techniques to safely access the canopy.
  • Proximity to structures – fence lines, sheds, and neighbouring homes located directly beneath sections of the tree.
  • Limited drop zones – preventing branches from being freely cut and dropped.
  • Precision pruning requirements – ensuring only the identified lower deadwood was removed while maintaining the tree’s natural structure.
  • Residential work environment – requiring careful planning to minimise disruption to the property and surrounding homes.

Our Approach & Execution

To safely complete the pruning works, our team implemented a controlled and methodical arboricultural approach:

  • Professional arborist climbing – allowing safe access to the canopy while maintaining close control over the pruning process.
  • Rigging and controlled lowering – with branches carefully tied and lowered to the ground to prevent damage to fences, sheds, and surrounding structures.
  • Selective deadwood removal – focusing on the lower canopy where larger dead branches posed the greatest risk.
  • Standards-compliant pruning – ensuring all cuts adhered to the Australian Standard Pruning of Amenity Trees.
  • Careful site management – maintaining safe work zones within the confined backyard environment.

Impact & Outcome

The pruning was completed safely and efficiently, significantly reducing potential hazards while maintaining the tree’s health and natural appearance. Key outcomes included:

  • Improved safety – hazardous deadwood removed from the lower canopy.
  • Preserved tree health and structure – through selective and standards-compliant pruning.
  • Protection of surrounding structures – achieved through rigging and controlled branch lowering.
  • Minimal property disruption – ensuring fences, sheds, and neighbouring areas remained undamaged.

The result is a safer backyard environment while preserving the presence and long-term health of this mature gum tree.
