What we do

Large trees brought down safely

Large tree removal is the controlled dismantling of trees that are too big, too dangerous, or too close to structures for standard felling. We remove them in sections from the top down, lowering each piece on ropes and rigging to a controlled landing zone.

Dixons Trees has done thousands of large tree removals across the Blue Mountains, Penrith, Hawkesbury, Western Sydney and the Central Coast since 2009. Whether a storm-damaged eucalypt is threatening your roof or a mature tree is impacting your development plans, we assess the situation, explain your options, and carry out the removal properly.

Common situations

When does a tree need removing?

Trees don’t always give obvious warning signs. Here are the most common reasons we’re called out.

Storm damage

After severe weather, trees can suffer structural damage. A damaged tree might look fine from the ground but be compromised internally. These trees need assessing for pruning or complete removal.

Tree health and disease

Trees can decline from disease, fungal infection, or insect damage. An unhealthy tree becomes unpredictable. If you notice dieback, fungal growth, or significant leaf loss, it’s worth getting an arborist to take a look.

Renovation or development

Building work often requires tree removal for access, footings, or clearance. We work with builders and developers to clear sites safely, coordinate with project timelines and handle council requirements.

Limb failure

Some species, particularly eucalypts, are known for dropping limbs without warning. If a tree is regularly shedding branches near your home, driveway, or where people walk, it needs professional assessment.

Root damage to structures

Tree roots can affect foundations, retaining walls, driveways and underground services. If you’re noticing cracking or movement near a large tree, an arborist can assess whether the tree is the cause.

Insect infestations

Infestations can be hard to spot but can cause serious internal damage. Our arborists are trained to identify signs of borers, termites and other pests that can compromise an otherwise healthy-looking tree.

Proximity to structures

Trees that have grown too close to your house, power lines, or boundary fences create ongoing risk. Selective pruning can reduce that risk and extend the life of the tree. Sometimes, though, removal is the only safe option.

Experienced crew, proper equipment

We handle the difficult ones

Most of the trees we remove are in tight spots: close to houses, overhanging fences, tangled in power lines, or on steep blocks. That’s the work we’re set up for.

Tree issues tend to develop gradually and getting them assessed early gives you more options. If you’re not sure whether a tree needs removing, we’ll come out and give you an honest opinion. If it doesn’t need to come down, we’ll tell you.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the tree’s size, species, location, access and proximity to structures. We provide a detailed quote after an on-site assessment so you understand the full scope and cost before any work begins.

In many parts of the Blue Mountains, Penrith, Hawkesbury, Western Sydney and the Central Coast, yes. Trees above a certain size or within heritage overlays typically require council consent. We advise you on whether your tree is likely to need approval and provide arborist reports to support your application. Some exemptions apply, including trees within 10 metres of a dwelling under the 10/50 Vegetation Clearing Scheme.

Most residential removals are completed in a single day. Very large trees, multi-tree jobs, or complex sites may take two or more days. We confirm the expected timeframe in your quote.

Our entire approach is designed to prevent it. Sectional dismantling and rigging let us lower timber in controlled pieces and we set up ground protection where needed. We carry $50 million public liability insurance.

Not necessarily. After we have discussed the work plan with you, our crew can carry out the removal without supervision. We will follow up the next day to make sure you are happy with the result.

All branches and debris are chipped on site and removed. Timber can be cut into manageable rounds and left for you, or removed entirely. Grinder shavings are retained on site and naturally backfill the hole left by the stump. We discuss your preferences before we start.

Yes. Our arborists hold AQF Level 3 qualifications in arboriculture, we carry $50 million public liability insurance and we hold ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 accreditation. We’ve been operating since 2009.
