Land clearing is the removal of trees, vegetation, stumps and organic debris from a property to prepare it for construction, landscaping or bushfire hazard reduction. It includes tree removal, stump grinding, vegetation stripping, on-site chipping and site levelling depending on the project requirements. Proper land clearing accounts for council approvals, protected vegetation, erosion control and coordination with other trades.
Dixons Trees has been clearing sites across the Blue Mountains, Penrith, Hawkesbury and Western Sydney since 2009. We handle everything from single residential blocks being prepared for a new home through to multi-lot commercial developments requiring staged clearing, environmental documentation and coordination with builders and civil contractors.

Land clearing is not always a large-scale operation. Here are the most common situations where we are called in.
Building a new home starts with a cleared site. Trees, stumps, undergrowth and surface vegetation all need removing before footings, services and access can be established. We clear residential blocks to your builder’s specifications and coordinate timing with your construction schedule.
Multi-lot developments need staged clearing that works around project timelines, council conditions and other trades. We handle vegetation removal across entire development sites, process waste on site and provide documentation for each stage of clearing. We work with your project manager to keep the build on schedule.
Properties in bushfire-prone areas of the Blue Mountains often need vegetation clearing for asset protection zones. The 10/50 Vegetation Clearing Scheme allows clearing of trees within 10 metres of a dwelling and underlying vegetation within 50 metres in designated areas, without council approval. We check whether your property qualifies and carry out the clearing to RFS requirements.
Adding to an existing home often requires clearing trees and vegetation for access, footings or setback compliance. We remove what needs removing, protect what needs protecting and coordinate with your builder so the site is ready when they need it.
Getting vehicles and equipment onto rural or semi-rural properties means clearing and grading access routes. We clear tracks for construction access, permanent driveways and fire trails, processing all vegetation on site.
Properties that have been left unmanaged for years can become impenetrable. Whether you are preparing to sell, planning future development or simply reclaiming usable land, we clear overgrown blocks back to a workable state.
Road upgrades, drainage work, park redevelopments and public infrastructure projects require professional vegetation clearing with full environmental compliance. We work with councils and government agencies to clear sites within strict environmental and heritage requirements, providing all necessary documentation.
Most of the land clearing we do is in the Blue Mountains, where sites are steep, access is tight and the vegetation is dense. That is the work we are built for. We operate our own excavators, bobcats, whole-tree chippers and tipper trucks, so we are not waiting on hire equipment or subcontractors to get your site cleared.
If you are not sure what clearing your site involves, we will come out, walk the block with you and explain what needs doing. If there are protected trees, environmental overlays or heritage considerations, we will identify them upfront and advise on the best approach. No surprises on site.

Tell us about your site: location, block size, what you are planning to build or do, and any council approvals you have in place. Photos or a site plan help us assess the scope early. We will arrange a site visit, usually within a few days.
Our team walks the block, identifies trees and vegetation requiring removal, checks for protected species or environmental constraints and assesses access for equipment. If council permits are needed, we advise on the requirements.
A detailed, obligation-free quote covering all clearing, waste processing, stump grinding and any council requirements. Everything is itemised so you can see what is included and share it with your builder or project manager.
Our crew arrives on the agreed date with the right equipment for your site. Trees are removed, vegetation is stripped, stumps are ground and all green waste is chipped on site. Timber can be cut into manageable rounds and left for you, or removed entirely.
Your property is left cleared, clean and ready for the next stage of your project. We provide documentation for council records and coordinate handover timing with your builder if required.

It varies based on block size, vegetation density, terrain, access and whether stump grinding is included. A small residential block is a different scope to a multi-lot development. We provide a detailed quote after a site assessment so you understand the full cost before any work begins. Contact us for a free assessment.
In most cases, yes. Trees and vegetation in the Blue Mountains are protected under local planning controls. Trees 4 metres or taller, trees with a crown spread over 4 metres and all mallee-formed eucalyptus species require a permit from Blue Mountains City Council before removal. Vegetation shown for removal on an approved development consent does not need a separate permit. We advise you on the requirements during the site assessment and help with the approval process.
It may. The 10/50 scheme allows property owners in designated bushfire areas to clear trees within 10 metres of a dwelling and underlying vegetation (not trees) within 50 metres, without council approval. Most of the Blue Mountains is within a designated Vegetation Clearing Entitlement Area. We can check whether your property qualifies and carry out the clearing to the scheme’s Code of Practice requirements.
A single residential block typically takes one to two days depending on vegetation density and access. Larger commercial or multi-lot sites may take several days to a week or more. We confirm the expected timeframe in your quote and coordinate with your project schedule.
All trees and vegetation are processed on site using our commercial chippers. Green waste becomes quality mulch that can stay on your property or be removed. Timber is cut into manageable rounds and left for you, or removed entirely. Stumps are ground below ground level. We discuss your preferences before starting.
Yes. We work with builders, developers and project managers regularly. We schedule clearing to align with your construction timeline, coordinate access with other trades on site and provide documentation for council and project records.
